The Ford 6.7L Power Stroke oil-to-water transmission cooler is connected to a solenoid-valve assembly that controls coolant flow into the cooler. The solenoid is energized as soon as ignition on, cutting off coolant flow into the transmission cooler completely until the transmission fluid temperature reaches around 210°F. Even when the factory valve is fully open, its restrictive passage negatively impacts cooler effectiveness.
